El Nino strength storms pummeled the mountains surrounding Juneau,
Alaska with snow, setting up prime conditions for Extreme Ski
Champion, Gordy Peifer, to make a first descent of a peak called
the Temptress. As he stood alone at the top, after making a reconnaissance
flight in a helicopter just minutes earlier, he recalled the cold
deep powder and the cliffband on his right halfway down - just
where the face of the slope turns away, so steep it is convex.
At that moment, he was skiing blind - using technique based on
instinct rather than eyesight. He lives for moments such as these,
on 50 degree slopes, in front of a camera. Along with Peifer,
were World Extreme Skiing Champions Francine Moreillon and Brant
Moles.
