THE
NEW YORK TIMES UPFRONT MAGAZINE SELECTS EXTREME!
OCTOBER 20, 1999 - The New York Times and Scholastic have combined
forces to publish and distribute a new magazine targeted at reaching
teens aged 14-18 yrs throughout the USA. Recently, the new publication,
called The New York Times Upfront, was a participating sponsor
of The Best of IMAX® Giant Screen Festival held during the
GSTA conference in New York. As part of their sponsorship, the
New York Times Upfront received a private event including a screening
of any large format film. After viewing the available films, the
New York Times Upfront selected EXTREME. Fran Straus, Marketing
Manager of The New York Times said; "EXTREME was perfect for what
the magazine is trying to do in reaching teens. EXTREME was the
most sophisticated of the films. It has great educational messages,
it is inspiring and it appeals to everyone - both adults and young
people. Very importantly, EXTREME communicates it's messages naturally,
in a manner which doesn't speak down to young people."
EXTREME's educational materials - ADVENTURE WITH A PURPOSE are
now available. ADVENTURE WITH A PURPOSE was created by OUTWARD
BOUND® USA (the world renowned leader in adventure based
experiential learning) and EXPEDITIONARY LEARNING OUTWARD BOUND
(a branch of Outward Bound formed to implement the educational
lessons of Outward Bound into curriculum for use in traditional
educational settings).
