Ross
Clarke-Jones
Professional Big-Wave Surfer
Hawaii and Brazil
Ross Clarke-Jones first broke into the big-wave scene in 1996
with an impressive performance during the Billabong Pro charging
20-25-foot waves in Waimea Bay. Since that epic day, Ross has
become a regular in the lineup at Waimea and the outer reefs of
Hawaii. He placed 7th in the first Quiksilver in Memory of Eddie
Aikau-an annual event that invites only the top 33 big-wave riders
and is held in a minimum of surf 20-feet plus. While waiting every
season for the monster surf, Ross' winning credentials in other
contests have grown, including a 3rd at the Pipe Masters in 1998.
He claims his best wave to date took place during the filming
of EXTREME. With partner Tony Ray, Ross towed-in to 40-foot swells
outside of Log Cabins on Big Wednesday, January, 1998.
Ross's other interests include abstract and surreal paintings
and sculpture from natural objects-things he considers "mixed
media." Ross is sponsored by Quiksilver.
